Both Black Falcon Mercedes entries fall out of Dubai 24
Abu Dhabi Racing Black Falcon was forced to retire from the Dubai 24 Hours for the second time in a row due to an accident with a slower car, which resulted in terminal damage to the new Mercedes AMG GT3.
The No. 2 Mercedes, which qualified fifth, had the accident in lap 119, where the team was in second position and starting to put more pressure on the leading car.
Jeroen Bleekemolen, who was driving at the time of the incident, said: “The car was running great and we were catching the cars in front and then I tried to overtake one of the slower GT3s, a Porsche, and then he just turned in on me and I thought he had seen me but apparently not. He pushed me onto the curb and then we touched.
“I tried to do everything to avoid it but I could not do anything more," he added. "I mean it should not have happened anyway, we need to anticipate on people not seeing us which I always do; but yes I trusted that he had seen me and I could go for the pass, and then he turned in and that was it”.
The sister No. 3 Mercedes, which won the 2015 edition of this race, suffered the same fate after an accident on Lap 154.
