Latest picture on my screen saver 2012-12-08: Motorsport.com art director Eric Gilbert presents the photos that he actually uses as screen savers (and that he has actually shot, also). Enjoy!

24 Hours of the Nürburgring, 2012-05-17

Looks like BMW has been a recurring theme for me, in the past couple of days. In parallel to a cool joy ride with my own M Roadster in the Everglades last weekend, BMW has been everywhere in the news - or at least in 'my' news: BMW Motorsport awards night and presentation of the special 'Bruno Spengler' edition BMW M3. And then, I stumbled up on this photo I shot last May at the Nürburgring, and it caught my attention. I didn't need more to put it in my collection of screen saver photos. The already colorful Karussell is a perfect match for the Marc VDS Racing Team BMW Z4 GT3 and its crazy paint scheme.

Also, like I've mentioned so many times, the Karussell on the Nürburgring Nordschleife has to be my favorite track corner to shoot. It has just about everything an auto racing photographer needs to craft countless beautiful photos. From the wicked concrete portion on the inside to the scenic background and the party atmosphere, the palette is almost infinite. I for one could spend hours and hours shooting there, whether on the outside or the inside of the curve. In fact, the only thing missing might be a tunnel to go from the outside to the inside, so plan in advance which side you want to be or else, you'll have to either drive 13km or walk 5km to get on the other side… But… Then again… If they feel like it, maybe those nice course marshals (in orange, on this photo) will save you time, if you ask politely to cross the track - it used to be possible, not so long ago :-)

And still on the subject of driving and walking, shooting at the Karussell is incredibly fun, but actually going there is also quite a trip, so to speak. Whether you drive in the narrow mountain bike trail (to go on the outside of the curve) or the even narrower paths in the campground on the inside, one always have that 'adventurous feeling' and that everything can and will happen.
