2010 Le Mans SeriesRound 2 - 8th/9th May 2010 - Preview
BMW Team Schnitzer sends two BMW M3 GT2 cars into action.Munich, 2nd May 2010. The endurance classics at the Nurburgring (DE) and Le Mans (FR) come ever closer. This weekend BMW Team Schnitzer competes in the popular 1000-kilometre race in Spa-Francorchamps (BE). The second round of the 2010 Le Mans Series forms an important part of the preparation for team manager Charly Lamm's squad for the Le Mans 24 Hours that will be staged on 12th and 13th June at the "Circuit de la Sarthe".
BMW Team Schnitzer fields two BMW M3 GT2 cars in Spa-Francorchamps. Car number 78 will be driven by Jorg Muller (DE), Dirk Werner (DE) and Uwe Alzen (DE). At the wheel of the number 79 GT car Andy Priaulx (GB), Dirk Muller (DE) and Augusto Farfus (BR) will share driving duties. At the LMS season opener in early April Jorg Muller and Dirk Werner finished sixth in the hard-fought LM GT2 class.
Charly Lamm (Team Manager): "The 1000-kilometre race in Spa-Francorchamps offers us another excellent opportunity to tune ourselves for the 24-hour race in Le Mans. Unlike in Le Castellet, we will compete with two BMW M3 GT2 cars. Every lap counts, and we will try to gather as much data as possible. There will be the same six drivers at the wheel that will also represent Team BMW Motorsport in Le Mans. We have many fond memories of the Spa circuit. Our team has scored many successes there with sports and touring cars. Therefore we are very much looking forward to our return."
Dirk Werner (Car Number 78): "Spa-Francorchamps is one of the nicest track around. We will use the Le Mans Series round to continue our preparations for the Le Mans 24 Hours. This event is particularly important for those drivers in our team who haven't yet raced the BMW M3 GT2 in this specification. The entry list is quite similar to the one we will have in Le Mans. Therefore the 1000-kilometre event is just the perfect testing ground for this 24-hour classic."
Dirk Muller (Car Number 79): "I'm really looking forward to the race in Spa. Every lap with the BMW M3 GT2 is good fun. This is even more the case if you race at such a classic circuit as this. I know the Le Mans Series from our races with the BMW M3 GTR. In addition, my experience from the American Le Mans Series should stand me in good stead. With more than 50 cars on the grid, the 1000-kilometre race will give us a good chance to get accustomed to what awaits us in Le Mans. There we will see many of these cars again."
