Silverstone LMS Round-Up - More Awards for Team Modena!

Silverstone last weekend saw the final round of the 2009 Le Mans Series, with drivers Antonio Garcia, Leo Mansell and Jaime Melo bringing the team's Ferrari home fourth in the LM GT2 category and clinching third place in the team's championship. That was not the only fine result from the weekend - and in our newsletter we outline another top-three finish, look back at the weekend, and offer you the opportunity to win a signed LMS poster.

More Honours for Team Modena

After a competitive first season in the LM GT2 category of the Le Mans Series, the team were delighted to claim third in the teams' championship for the class - as well as drivers Antonio Garcia and Leo Mansell taking third in their championship table. Things got even better on the Monday morning after the race, when news came though that the team had come third overall in the Michelin Green X Challenge - a season-long competition for all teams linked the efficiency of their cars in each of the races.

Team Modena came second in the challenge for the Silverstone race, and in the final results were the leading GT team of the 41-squads who scored points over the season.

"I am very proud of the team," said Team Principal Graham Schultz. "The standard of preparation at Team Modena is second to none, and the level of professionalism displayed by the crew both at the circuit and back in the workshops is what gives us the reliability and performance we display on the track. Hans Muelhbauer, our team manager, heads up a great team of guys."

The Michelin Green X Challenge rewards efficiency in each of the five 1000km races that make up the LMS. Results are calculated by dividing a team's average speed for a race by the amount of fuel used, to give an energy efficiency index.

Sea of Red on the Grid

A highlight of the Silverstone meeting for the team was the number of guests and sponsors who gave their support to the team over the weekend. A large number joined us on the grid prior to the start of the race, the Ferrari surrounded by red team shirts as the clock ticked down.

With guests from valued partners such as Securi-Plex and Vertu backing the team over the weekend, it was memorable finish to the team's international season.

"We had 26-guests at Silverstone," said Securi-Plex director Steve Lawson, "and it was a sea of red shirts on the grid that could be seen from the far corners of the track! It was a fantastic weekend - one to remember."

Vote of Thanks from Nigel Mansell

A feature of the season for Team Modena has been the presence of motor racing legend Nigel Mansell in the pits at each race. At Silverstone Nigel was actually competing in the race himself, running a prototype from the next pit to Modena's, but at the end of the event he summed up his thoughts on the team's season.

"Team Modena have been fantastic to us," said Nigel, "brilliant people who managed to take third in the championship first time out in GT2. A big thank you to Team Modena, Ferrari, Antonio and Jaime".
