Rojas says Le Mans dream motivated ELMS switch

Memo Rojas says a long-standing desire to race in the Le Mans 24 Hours was behind his decision to switch to the European Le Mans Series for 2016.

The 36-year-old Mexican racer has been a mainstay of the American sportscar racing scene for the past decade, having taken four GrandAm titles alongside Scott Pruett for Chip Ganassi Racing between 2008 and 2012.

He switched over to join the DeltaWing team for last year's IMSA United SportsCar Championship, but was unveiled as one of Greaves Motorsport's two nominated drivers in the LMP2 class for 2016 on the European Le Mans series entry list last week.

Rojas will drive a Ligier JS P2 for the British team for the six-round campaign, as well as in the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours - where his father, Memo Sr, raced back in 1974.

"I want to thank everyone in the IMSA Series for those nine years I raced there," said Rojas. "I am looking for new challenges, so I am moving to the European endurance scene.

"One of the biggest incentives for me is my long standing dream to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. My father raced there and now I hope to add a win in the most famous endurance race of them all to my record.

“Greaves Motorsport are the current European Le Mans Series champions and also they won their class previously at Le Mans. They are always competitive and have been one of the leading teams for many seasons, their record proves that."

Greaves will shake down its newly-acquired Ligier (pictured left) in the official pre-season ELMS test at Paul Ricard in March, before moving on to Spain to conduct further testing.
