Zytek Machinery Shows Well In Qualifying
2009 Champions qualify second for opening round
Zytek Motorsport customer Quifel-ASM qualified second in class and tenth overall for the 2010 Le Mans Series season opener at Paul Ricard. The 2009 LMP2 champions will be disappointed to miss out on pole, particularly after some strong testing performances, but by lining up second the Portuguese team is in a very strong position for tomorrow's eight hour race.
Fellow LMP2 campaigner Team Bruichladdich qualified fifth in class in its Ginetta-Zytek 09SB/2 meaning that Zytek is the only manufacturer with more than one car in the top five positions. Qualifying for the first round of the championship took place in favourable conditions, under clear skies with an ambient temperature of 21°C.
Beechdean Mansell Motorsport qualified seventh in LMP1 in its first race with a Ginetta-Zytek 09SB. The team, which features 1992 Formula 1 World Champion Nigel Mansell and his two sons Leo and Greg, will start the race in a positive frame of mind having put in competitive times throughout the weekend.
The eight hour race, which starts tomorrow at 11:00 CET, will prove a tough test for Zytek's customers, with the weather expected to stay dry and a strong grid in both the LMP1 and LMP2 classes.
Trevor Foster, Zytek Motorsport Managing Director said, "Overall this has been an encouraging showing, but with the new aero kit only becoming available for this race we know that there are a lot of improvements still to come. Beechdean Mansell was still evaluating different tires from Dunlop right up to qualifying, so there is a lot more time to be found in the whole package."
