Stefan Mucke on second place at LMS season opening at Le Castellet
Le Castellet (rol) A brilliant second place gained the sports car driver from German Stefan Mucke at the season opening of the Le Mans Series (LMS) Sunday evening (11th of April) at Le Castellet (France). At this 8-hour-race the 28-year-old Berlin in his closed LMP1 sports car prototype Lola-Aston Martin had to defer only the Diesel-Works-Audi R15 TDI plus with Italian Rinaldo Capello and the Scottish Allan McNisch.
"This is a great result for us, which we didn't expect before. At the same time this has been a useful test for the 24 hour race of Le Mans middle of June", told last years LMS champion Mucke, that was sharing cockpits on Sunday with his Aston Martin works driver-colleagues Adrian Fernandez (Mexico) and Harold Primat (Switzerland). After gaining third place on 21st of March at the 12 hour race of Sebring/USA the Berlin got on the podium second time in the first two long track races of the season.
The German, that gained enough lead for 3rd place at start after Qualifying on Saturday (10th of April), already caused a lot of excitement at the beginning of the race (11 am) at Le Castellet. He showed off with a great start overtaking the diesel cars of Peugeot and Audi starting in first places and was leading for three laps before getting catched again by both of them. "The difference in speed appears extremely on the long straight. There was no chance", told Stefan Mucke. In Southern France he was the best German and drove the fastest lap in a petrol car.
"Sure I am very excited about the place on the podium again, that also gives us very important outcrop in preparation for the season highlight at Le Mans", noted the Berlin. At the award ceremony just after 7 pm he and his team colleagues has been on the wrong place of the podium-third instead of second-what nobody really noticed. "That's not bad, the important thing is that we got the right cup for our second place", grinned Stefan Mucke.
For him it will go on seamless. Already on Monday (12th of April) the Berlin takes a flight to Abu Dhabi. Because on the coming weekend (17th of April) there will be another premiere for him and his rivals: At the United Arab Emirates it is season opening of the FIA GT1 World Championship. This is a new racing series including ten events all around the globe until the beginning of December. In this world championships with 24 cars Stefan Mucke drives an Aston Martin DBR9 together with the Dane Christoffer Nygaard for the Team Young Driver AMR (Paderborn/Copenhagen).
