Top Two Places For Zytek
Repton-built LMP2s first and second in qualifying
The Quifel-ASM Team's LMP2 Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S has proved totally dominant in qualifying for a second consecutive time in a Le Mans Series round. This time the performance of the Repton-built cars has been emphatically underlined with second place in class for the Zytek 07S of the GAC Racing Team.
Quifel-ASM's impressive Frenchman, Olivier Pla was the quickest LMP2 driver in this morning's final practice session for tomorrow's ADAC 1,000km of the Nurburgring. His time of 1min 44.8secs was a full 2.6 seconds faster than any LMP2 car had been the previous day.
Conditions during this afternoon's qualifying session were not as conducive to fast running as the earlier practice period and virtually every car in the field was slower. However, Olivier again ruled the proceedings finishing over a second faster than anyone else in class with a 1min 45.578sc. For the first time in the series, second place went to Philipp Peter in the GAC Zytek.
During the morning practice session, Danny Watts in the LMP1 Strakka Racing served notice of his intention to repeat his Barcelona pole position performance with second place overall. However, heavy traffic hindered his qualifying laps, which prevented a repeat of this and he finished the session in fourth overall with a time of 1min 42.966secs.
The 195-lap ADAC 1,000km of the Nurburgring starts tomorrow at 12.30pm. Four Zytek-engined cars will be in the field, the 4.5-litre LMP1 Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S that Danny shares with Nick Leventis, and three 3.4-litre LMP2 contenders, the Ginetta-Zytek GZ09S of Olivier and Miguel Amaral, the Zytek 07S of Philipp, Karim Ojjeh and Claude-Yves Gosselin and the WR Salini of Stephane Salini Philippe Salini, and Tristan Gommendy
