No podium for Pierre Ehret due to technical problem

The 1.000 km-Race at Nurburgring was the third round for Pierre Ehret in the Le Mans Series 2006. In front of about 10.000 spectators the weather showed best conditions for the racing weekend. Together with Dominik Farnbacher, Pierre Ehret started on a Porsche 996 GT3 RSR, prepared by the Farnbacher Racing Team.

A place on the podium was the goal in the 18 team strong GT2 category. "During the 24 HOURS of Le Mans we had bad luck and managed a second place. Hopefully we will have more luck at Nurburgring", stated Ehret before the weekend.

In qualifying one drove the sixth best time with 2:00.656 Min. beeing the second best Porsche on the grid. How competitive the GT2 Category would be became evident during the qualifying session by the fact that the top 8 cars were within only one second. Ehret was satisfied with the third starting row: "1.000 kilometres are a long distance and I am optimistic that we can keep the pace. We missed rank five only by one tenth of a second", explained Ehret refering to the Porsche from Autorlando Sport driven by Marc Lieb.

The Race started on schedule at 11.45 AM (MEZ) although there was the first moment of shock when one was at the starting grid. The pins of the steering wheel cable had become loose, making any functions on the steering wheel non operative. But the crew improvised and found a solution at last. So Ehret could start without problems.

He did a good job driving quick lap times. "But then I was caught between Marc Lieb and Christophe Bochut and was set under pressure", explained Ehret who finally spun in the seventh lap and therewith lost five positions. Nevertheless he managed to undo this loss during the next 30 laps before he handed over the car to Dominik Farnbacher.

But his teammate came immediately back into the pits due to a broken shifter linkage. The team lost about four laps which could never be made up. One finally reached a ninth rank in the GT2 category and a 25th in the overall classification.

Pierre Ehret after the race: "Once again a pity, that we had technical problems. Without the broken linkage we would have made podium for sure. I am very happy with my lap times. Having choosen Yokohoma as the tire was the right decision and will push us forward in the future."
