Pierre Ehret on rank three in Le Mans Series at Nurburgring
In the third attempt Pierre Ehret finally managed a podium position. During the third round of the Le Mans Series at Nurburgring on 1st July Ehret and his team Farnbacher Racing took rank three in GT2 category.
"This was a well-deserved reward for our hard work", said Ehret after the race. "Today everything worked perfectly and we did not have any problems during the whole race distance."
The 19 teams of the GT2 category drove 171 laps in six hours on the 5,137 kilometres long track of Nurburgring.
Already in free practice on friday the trio Pierre Ehret ,Dirk Werner and Lars-Erik Nielsen did a good job in their "Flamingo Resort Hotel"-Porsche 997 GT3 RSR by reaching rank four and six. In the third session one even improved to the very top and drove best time.
"This showed us that a podium rank was possible in any case this weekend", explained Ehret. In qualifying one confirmed the aim and drove the second best time with 1:59.070 minutes, although Dirk Werner was blocked a little bit in his fast lap by one of the Panoz. "Otherwise it surely would have been the pole position", stated teamchef Horst Farnbacher.
But the team was happy and one showed a constant performance by taking rank two in qualifying for the third time in the LMS series.
So the driver trio was optimistic for the race. Dirk Werner drove the start and set a high pace, making him defend rank two. Second stint was driven by Ehret. During this time the Felbermayr Porsche became quicker. "They were slightly faster and were able to overtake us", said Horst Farnbacher. But from then on the Farnbacher team did not loose any position and saved rank three up to the finish line.
"Our drivers did a brilliant job. We did not make any mistake throughout the race distance and took rank three well-deserved. This is a realistic position for us. The Ferarris were too strong and the Felbermyer Porsche slightly better. Pierre got a small bump by another driver but besides drove a super stint by saving fuel, so that we had not to refuel at the end. Lars was constant too and preserved fuel during his stint.. About Dirk there is nothing to say anymore. He saved rank three in finish and even drove the same times like the top in the very end" summarized Horst Farnbacher.
Lars-Erik Nielsen: "Finally the team was rewarded for its great work. The team of Farnbacher Racing is very professional and well-prepared. I am happy for the team, especially Horst."!
Pierre Ehret: "I think we have been rewarded for our performance today. Rank three is very good and well-deserved. During my stint there were no bigger problems, except some understeering and a bump with a Matmut Porsche. Now we are looking forward for the next race. Let's see what it will bring."
The 4th round of the Le Mans Series will be a highlight: Host will be the tradtitional circuit of Spa-Francochamps (B) on 17th to 19th August 2007.
