A SUPERB WIN FOR PESCAROLO SPORT
When Christophe Tinseau in the Pescarolo #17 took the wheel for his final runs, it was with the aim of getting closer to the Pescarolo #16 driven by Emmanuel Collard and Jean-Christophe Boullion, then established in a solid 3rd place in the overall ranking. With the two diesels fighting it out up ahead and clearly unapproachable, Ortelli and Ayari's Courage-Oreca and the Creation were within reach.
An incredible string of events from out of the blue then took place. Emmanuel Collard, with a two-lap lead over his pursuers, suffered a massive fright when his front right brake disc exploded right in the middle of a braking zone. Gone were the hopes of the Boullion/Collard crew, who had just had a remarkable race. Not long afterwards, Stephane Ortelli's Courage- Oreca car flew off the track at more than 300 km/hour. A spectacular accident, thankfully without any serious injuries to the driver.
Christophe Tinseau thus found himself in an intense battle with Stuart Hall in the Creation, for the gaining of 3rd place. The crowd was to witness a genuine Grand Prix for the race finale: with the Audi and the Peugeot on one hand, the Pescarolo-Judd and the Creation on the other, fighting literally wheel-to-wheel right up to the checkered flag. Thanks to some stunning braking, Christophe Tinseau succeeded in carrying off the famous 3rd place in the final lap. His team mate Harold Primat, who was closely following this brawl with the rest of the Pescarolo Sport team in the pits, started jumping for joy, as he had magnificently laid the groundwork by executing some very high-level runs.
Henri Pescarolo relished this result: " This podium is a superb reward for the Pescarolo Automobiles Group, which until sight of the finish line saw its 5 cars in the top 15 of the overall ranking. I am sorry though that the Pescarolo LMP2 didn't reap the fruit of its efforts. Pierre Ragues and Matthieu Lahaye were deprived of a well deserved podium between the 2 Porsche cars following a rather harsh penalty of 3' in the pits. "
