The European Le Mans Series has announced its calendar for 2017, adding two iconic venues in Monza and Portimao.

#38 G-Drive Racing Gibson 015S-Nissan: Simon Dolan, Giedo van der Garde, Harry Tincknell

The series will stick to a six-race calendar, with Monza and Portimao replacing Imola and Estoril respectively.

Monza last featured on the ELMS calendar in 2008, while Portimao hosted two races in 2009 and 2010.

The season will kick-start at Silverstone on 15th April before heading eastwards to Monza in May. Red Bull Ring, Paul Ricard and Spa-Francorchamp will follow - the trio retaining their places on the calendar.

The season will conclude at Portimao in October.

The venue for the pre-season test has also been changed, with Monza replacing Paul Ricard.

Speaking at the announcement, Gerard Neveu, European Le Mans Series CEO, said: “Among the many well-known European motorsport venues, there are some which speak for themselves through their tradition and history.

"As well as Silverstone and Spa we now have Monza which has a long history in endurance racing.

"We very much look forward to going there in 2017, just as we also look forward to creating new traditions and history at more modern venues such as Portimao in the sunny Algarve area where we will close the season.”
