Free practice session successful in Barcelona

The QUIFEL-ASM Team achieved the second best time in the LMP2 class, in free practice sessions in Barcelona today. This morning Olivier Pla clocked 1:36:42 on the Catalonia circuit. The Catalonia 1,000km race, which is the first stage of the Le Mans Series 2008 Championship, is due to take place this weekend.

With Miguel Pais do Amaral in the driving seat, the Lola B05/40 ERA clocked 1:40:727, the eighth-best time of the free practice session. However, the Portuguese driver was unable to improve on his time due to the car coming off the track.

The Portuguese team made use of the morning stage to fine tune the car to the track and find the best tyre composition for the circuit. The QUIFEL_ASM Team mechanics also focused on tuning the chassis.

The third free practice session will take place tomorrow morning. Qualification will take place on Saturday afternoon. On Sunday morning a 20 minute session of free practice will take place before the start of the Catalonia 1,000 km at 10.35 a.m. (Lisbon time).

The start of the 1,000 km race will be televised live, as of 10.15 a.m., on the Eurosport channel, which will also broadcast a summary on Monday, 7th April, at 7.30 a.m. The event will also be broadcast live on Motors TV for a total of four and a half hours including the start and end of the race.
