Larbre unveil Barcelona 1000kms line-up for car 50
Larbre Competition has announced Steve Zacchia, Roland Berville and Sebastien Dumez as its driver line-up for the Barcelona 1000kms on 5 April.
The trio will race the French team's GT1 Saleen S7R at the opening round of the Le Mans Series as the multiple LMS Champions make their return to the championship for the first time since the same race last season.
All three drivers have raced for the team before, with Swiss Steve Zacchia having helped the Val de Vienne-based squad to the GTS class title in 2004 in a Ferrari 550 Maranello. He has also driven for them in the FIA GT Championship and French Porsche Carrera Cup and was a class winner in the Aston Martin Racing Larbre DBR9 in the 1000 Milhas, the final round of the 2007 LMS calendar. Last season he sampled a prototype for the first time racing the Speedy Racing Team Sabeh LMP2 Lola coupe in the LMS and at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Frenchman Roland Berville is another familiar face at Larbre and contested the final round of the FIA GT Championship in San Luis, Argentina, last season, the Le Mans 24 Hours in 2007 as well as numerous other series with the team. He has been a regular in the French Porsche Carrera Cup over the past few seasons and has a vast amount of experience in sportscar racing and the Le Mans Series.
Multiple French Porsche Carrera Cup champion Sebastien Dumez raced with Larbre as long ago as 2001 in the FIA GT Championship and is another driver with a wealth of sportscar racing experience. For the past two seasons he has raced a Corvette C6.R in the LMS and will now drive the team's Saleen for the first time.
"I'm delighted with our driver line-up," said Larbre Competition Team Principal Jack Leconte. "We've worked with all three of these guys before. We trust them to do a good job in Barcelona and I'm sure that feeling is mutual. They all have plenty of endurance racing experience and that is always crucial in a 1000km race.
"We finished second-in-class in Barcelona last season with our Saleen S7R, despite having to start from the very back the grid. This year we hope to celebrate our return to the Le Mans Series on the top step of the podium."
The Barcelona 1000kms takes place on Sunday 5 April and will be screened by Eurosport.
