Audi trio set pace in Zandvoort
Audi again dominated action in the second 90-minute-long training session for the eighth championship race of the DTM in Zandvoort. Tom Kristensen, driving an Audi A4 DTM, clocked the fastest lap time of the day in 1:34.891 minutes.
The time by the winner of the last DTM race at the Motopark was more than four tenths of a second faster than Timo Scheider's (Opel) pole position time from last year. Overall standings leader Mattias Ekström (1:35.273 mins) placed second on the 4.307-kilometre-long circuit.
Christian Abt rounded off the leading trio from the Audi Sport Team Abt Sportsline. Defending champion Christijan Albers drove his AMG-Mercedes C-class into fourth position ahead of Audi driver Martin Tomczyk. Scot Peter Dumbreck was the fastest Opel driver, coming sixth in his Opel Vectra GTS V8.
Mercedes-Benz's Jean Alesi followed in seventh, while Opel drivers Laurent Aiello, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Marcel Fässler confirmed their solid team performance in the last race in Oschersleben by securing the last three slots in the top 10.
Tom Kristensen (Audi):
"The team gave me an Audi today where all the alterations had been perfectly implemented. That immediately helped me feel at home in my first appearance in Zandvoort. The position of the circuit is fantastic."
Peter Dumbreck (Opel):
"I'm satisfied with my time. It forms a good starting foundation for the entire weekend. But as we well know the conditions here can quickly change as sand is always being blown off the dunes onto the track. Let's see what happens."
Christijan Albers (Mercedes-Benz):
"I'm pretty satisfied with the time and very confident as regards the rest of the weekend. We'll be able to keep up with the Audi with a good set-up in tomorrow's qualifying."
