The Opel team have been testing a second 2002 Astra V8 Coupe in Vallelunga, Italy as they prepare for the upcoming DTM season. Last week Timo Scheider drove the RC0 21 car which has been running since the end of last year while Alain Menu shook down Euroteam's first 2002 chassis, the RC0 22. Scheider replaced the squad's number one driver Manuel Reuter who was in hospital in Neurnberg after complications caused by flu.

"The new car was reliable and fast straight away," said Menu, "so many compliments to the Euroteam!" Scheider commented that is was hard work but worth it: "We concentrated on a very big testing programme, which was hard work but produced many results."

The new cars feature the double rear wing for the first time, which is a new regulation in DTM this year. Meanwhile Michael Bartels concentrated on engine and brake systems in the older RC0 16 chassis.

"In comparison to the previous year we are in the test routine very early," said Opel's motorsport boss Volker Strycek. "I observe our development very closely in order to detect, in the available time window, any weaknesses immediately."
