Moscow DTM: Rockenfeller gets pole for Sunday race

2013 DTM champion Mike Rockenfeller took his second pole of the season in Sunday qualifying at Moscow Raceway.

Rockenfeller edged fellow Audi driver Mattias Ekstrom for the top spot, the latter rebounding from Saturday's race-ending clash with Timo Glock.

Ekstrom, having topped warm-up earlier this morning, led after the first run of flying laps, one tenth clear of Marco Wittmann - with Gary Paffett as the highest-placed Mercedes driver in seventh.

The status quo remained until two and a half minutes were left on the clock, when Rockenfeller demoted Ekstrom to second place by a narrow margin of 0.038s.

Jamie Green and Nico Muller moved up to make it a provisional Audi 1-2-3-4, only for the domination to be broken up by the BMW duo of Bruno Spengler and Maxime Martin.

But neither Spengler, nor Martin could match the leading Audis, with pole position going to Rockenfeller.

Duo to his three-place grid penalty from yesterday, Ekstrom will give up his spot on the front row to Spengler and will start fifth, behind Martin and Green.

Muller took sixth, with Paffett retaining the status of top Mercedes driver in seventh place.

Tom Blomqvist ended up eighth, surviving an early spin that nearly saw him collected by stablemate Martin Tomczyk.

Augusto Farfus took ninth, while Wittmann and Pascal Wehrlein - the pair who had made up the front row on Saturday - will start 10th and 11th.
