2002 DTM Presentation at the amusement park Europa-Park Rust

Starting into the DTM's Third Season Ten Mercedes-Benz drivers and their teams presented to the public Germany's biggest amusement park, the Europa-Park Rust near Frieburg. It was the setting for the presentation of the new Mercedes-Benz CLK-DTM which had its world DTM the 2002 DTM on Thursday, including a premiere at Geneva on 4 March, along with its attractive programme for the media and the production counterpart.

It has a completely new image: a new body and space frame and has been aerodynamically developed for a top speed of 130 kph/80 mph, the 21 DTM efficient. The kinematics of the redesigned suspension have been optimised for the new Dunlop tyres, which are taller and wider than the previous ones. Enhancements have also been made to various details of the 470 hp four-litre eight-cylinder engine.

About 12,000 visitors to the park could realise that Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz the DTM is again family and spectator minded: "The new partnership with the ADAC and interviews with all the drivers attracted the crowd, all means a big step forward. The 2002 championship will be even more attractive. We all expect great races and they demonstrated the Grand Prix start which is new and exciting."

"Mercedes-Benz will enter four new CLKs including Uwe Alzen (34) and Marcel Fassler (25), both driving for Warsteiner AMG-Mercedes, for the DTM this year, and six 2001 models. The sponsors showed great interest in the series and the drivers spun their cars , so that we could see "donuts" -- i.e. with smoking tyres We are all glad to have Jean Alesi in the DTM, who will certainly add to the attraction of the championship."
