Four Opel Vectra GTS V8s in the individually timed laps of the fourth round of the DTM was the best result in qualifying for the Ruesselsheimer marque this season. After Saturday practice at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz it rained and the individually timed laps followed on a drying track, which was to the advantage of the later starters.
Fastest Opel driver was Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix) in fourth place, his first time in the super pole qualifying this year. Timo Scheider (OPC team Holzer), the only Opel driver in each super pole session so far this season, starts a row behind with the sixth best time.
Teammate Manuel Reuter follows in eighth. Marcel Fässler, (OPC Team Phoenix), who just like Reuter at Hockenheim was again in the individually timed laps, qualified in ninth.
Volker Strycek, Opel motor sport boss:
"We had set a goal this weekend to have a better team achievement. We clearly reached that with four Vectras in the best ten. Peter Dumbreck, Timo Scheider, Manuel Reuter and Marcel Fässler gained good starting positions for the race under difficult conditions. Tomorrow we want to convert this into an appropriate race result."
Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix) 1:51.690, 4th
"I'm happy because we gained a good result with well balanced tuning. The rain tyres were the wrong choice in the individually timed laps -- afterwards one is always smarter."
Timo Scheider (OPC Team Holzer) 1:53.980, 6th
"Qualifying was unfortunate for me because of the yellow flag period towards the end, as no more fast laps were possible. Starting position sixth is okay on rain tyres but slicks would have been better."
Manuel Reuter (OPC Team Holzer) 1:56.149, 8th
"Qualifying was fair, because fast times from the yellow flag period -- including my own -- were consequentially cancelled. Afterwards followed a predictable super pole on a drying track. I drove on rain tyres, slicks were too risky at the time I went out."
Marcel Fässler (OPC Team Phoenix) 1:57.274, 9th
"In the rain I wasn't comfortable and afterwards I was first in the super pole round. Rain tyres were the only choice. Nevertheless, I was in the individually timed laps for the second time."
Laurent Aiello (OPC Team Phoenix) 1:59.309, 12th
"It's disappointing that my best time was cancelled -- I was sixth fastest. When I drove my lap it was understandable that no car would easily be able to see a yellow flag."
Heinz-Harald Frentzen (OPC Team Holzer) 1:59.726 14th
"I tried hard, the car felt good, but I caught traffic again and again. Therefore I ended only in fourteenth."
Jeroen Bleekemolen (OPC Euroteam) 2:01.013, 20th
"Unfortunately there was more traffic in both my last laps, otherwise more would have been possible. Now we must make the best from the initial position in the race."
