A close call between Mercedes-Benz and Opel: on the test day before the fourth round of the DTM at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz, Scot Peter Dumbreck set the fastest time in the first 90 minutes' test session with his Opel Astra V8 Coupé.

In the second test, Dutch driver Christijan Albers (AMG-Mercedes CLK), who has won the last two DTM-races, topped the time sheets. With his fastest time of 1.29.814 minutes at the 4.575 kilometres long track, the 24-year old was the fastest of the day. Only 0.166 seconds behind him, Swiss Alain Menu (Opel Astra V8 Coupé) was second. Already 0.523 seconds down, Bernd Schneider (AMG-Mercedes CLK) occupied third place.

Only one week after the overall win in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife, Opel once more presents itself in excellent form. Peter Dumbreck, fastest in the first test in the Lausitz: "As far as I am concerned, the weekend can continue like this. I am already looking forward to the race." Points leader Christijan Albers is also highly motivated: "After my two wins, there is much more rumour around me. Now, the focus is on the sport again."

The two Abt-Audi-drivers Christian Abt and Laurent Aiello both came off the track at the first corner and damaged their cars quite severely.
