Lausitz DTM: Green takes pole by half a second

Jamie Green trounced his DTM opposition by over half a second in qualifying for race two at Lausitz for Audi.

Green, who won yesterday’s race despite his DRS not working, was in a class of his own as Audi once again swept the top four spots on the grid.

Audi’s Adrian Tambay set the early pace on 1m18.334s, before a flurry of improvements. Mercedes young gun Pascal Wehrlein lowered the bar to 1m18.231s, before Green set 1m18.207s.

Audi’s Nico Muller then grabbed the top spot with 1m18.203s, before Green slammed in 1m18.032s.

Expected frontrunner Mattias Ekstrom languished down in 19th during the first half of the session, but moved up to ninth, then fourth and second on his second set of tyres.

However, Ekstrom's best time was 0.52s off Green's ultimate best, a 1m17.386s.

Timo Schieder grabbed P3 with 1m18.019s, just 0.01s faster than yesterday’s poleman Miguel Molina.

Maxime Martin was top BMW in fifth, ahead of Audi’s Edoardo Mortara.

The fastest Mercedes was Daniel Juncadella in 10th, just 0.012s ahead of Gary Paffett.

The only incident of note was Timo Glock’s big spin – which filled his BMW with gravel.
