Hockenheim DTM: Glock grabs pole by 0.037s

Timo Glock scored his second pole position of the 2017 DTM season after beating fellow BMW driver Maxime Martin by three hundredths of a second at Hockenheim.

Glock jumped into first place in the final minute of the session, demoting previous leader Jamie Green with a time of 1m30.648s.

Audi driver Green looked set to add a third consecutive pole position to his tally, having topped both qualifying sessions in the previous round at the Red Bull Ring.

However, the Briton was unable to improve in the late stages of this session and dropped behind the BMW duo of Glock and Martin.

Moreover, Green is under investigation for blocking, as is Audi stablemate Mike Rockenfeller.

Rene Rast was the second-fastest Audi in fourth, as the third row will be filled by Mercedes duo Edoardo Mortara and Robert Wickens.

Rockenfeller was seventh, ahead of the only remaining BMW title contender Marco Wittmann.

The top 10 was rounded out by two more Audis in Nico Muller and championship favourite Mattias Ekstrom.

Meanwhile, Lucas Auer, the top Mercedes man in the standings, could only take 15th.

Ekstrom sits 21 points ahead of Rast with two races to go, and would need to outscore his fellow Audi driver by eight points on Saturday - while also not dropping significant ground to any of Green, Rockenfeller, Wittmann or Auer - to clinch the title ahead of the final race.
