Gary Paffett Embarks On Eighth Season In DTM And Eyes Championship Win
When the new DTM season kicks off in Hockenheim on 1st May, it will mark Gary Paffett’s eighth season in the Championship. Paffett took the 2010 Championship down to the wire, eventually finishing in second place, just four points behind the winner Paul di Resta, and this season he will be hoping to go one better.
The 2005 DTM Champion has finished runner up in the Championship on a further two occasions and has won more DTM races than any other active DTM driver. With a win ration of 24% he has won nearly one in every four races of his DTM career, making him one of the most successful DTM drivers of all time.
This season sees Paffett continue to drive for the HWA Mercedes team in an AMG Mercedes C-Class. The title sponsor of Paffett’s car for 2011 will be the watch and jewelry brand Thomas Sabo and will see Paffett and his AMG Mercedes C-Class take to the track in Hockenheim sporting a new slick, black livery.

Gary Paffett commented; “I am looking forward to going into my eighth DTM season. Last year I narrowly missed out on the Championship and my goal this year is to add to my 2005 DTM Championship with another Championship win. It’s not only my eighth year in DTM, it is also my eighth year with Mercedes. It is a team I feel really comfortable with and having seen the incredible work everyone put in last year, I am confident that we will together be challenging for wins from the beginning.”
Gary Paffett continued; “The grid for the 2011 DTM Championship is once again extremely competitive and I am expecting another closely fought Championship. The only significant change this year is that we have a new tyre supplier, Hankook, so it will be interesting to see what impact this has on the racing. It’s been a long winter, and over four months since I took the chequered flag in Shanghai, so now I’m looking forward to getting back in the car and going racing again!”
Gary Paffett heads to Hockenheim for round one of the DTM Championship on May 1st.
