F3 ace Eriksson eyeing future DTM move

Eriksson has recently been recruited to the BMW Motorsport Junior Programme, and spent the previous round of the DTM at the Hungaroring with the Bavarian marque.

The Swede admitted racing in DTM is one of his career goals and said he would take the opportunity if he was presented with one.

"For sure DTM is one of the goals in my life, it'd nice to go to DTM but it's hard to see what is happening, if there is going to be space or is it going to be full," Eriksson told Motorsport.com.

"You never know, but we have to keep it open and let's see.

"For sure, if the chance comes, I would take it. It's a really good chance in life to drive a DTM, but we have to see what BMW is saying."

"Kicking the ass" of F1 junior teammates

Runner-up in ADAC F4 last year, Eriksson moved up to F3 for 2016, staying within the ranks of Motopark.

He teamed up with Red Bull juniors Niko Kari and Sergio Sette Camara as well as Ferrari's Guan Yu Zhou, and he is currently ahead of all three of them.

The 18-year-old admitted beating drivers backed by F1 teams has given extra motivation to him.

"It's a bit of a motivation for me to kick the ass of them," said Eriksson.

"Most of the time I'm faster than them, so for me it's good and also for the media. It's a motivation to be faster than them."

Eriksson is currently sixth in the standings, and heads the Rookies' Championship ahead of this weekend's Imola round.

"I'm quite happy [with my season], we had two bad weekends and we missed a lot of points," he added.

"That's why we are only P6 in the overall championship but I'm leading the rookie championship and I'm really happy of this."
