Laurent Aiello claims third pole position of the season
The "duel of the giants" goes into the next round: at the sixth event of the DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) at the Lausitzring, Laurent Aiello will be starting from pole position with his Abt-Audi TT-R alongside Bernd Schneider. Only a fortnight ago, the points leader of the Abt-team staged a great fight with the DTM-champion, which he decided into his favour with an exciting manoeuvre on the final corner. Christian Abt and Mattias Ekström, who will celebrate his 24th birthday on race day, share positions on the second grid row. With fifth and seventh position, Martin Tomczyk and Karl Wendlinger complete the strong performance of the Team Abt Sportsline. ZDF is broadcasting the race live from 12.45.
Quotes after qualifying
Laurent Aiello (1.39.027 min., 1st place):
"That was a hard qualifying. It is always difficult when you have to concentrate 100 percent and bring the entire performance in one single lap. Today, I succeeded. Now, I am looking forward to continuing the nice fight with Bernd from the Norisring here."
Martin Tomczyk (1.39.577 min., 5th place):
"Of course, I am happy with fifth place on the grid, but I had expected a little bit more from myself. My first attempt was the best, then I didn't get another perfect lap together. In the race, we all have a good position to start from. It will be a nice blue-yellow five-pack in front."
Karl Wendlinger (1.39.774 min., 7th place):
"My time of today was okay, but I still haven't got the 100 percent feeling for the track. Maybe, I am just lacking the test session that I missed yesterday because of an oil leak. But seventh on the grid is still within striking distance to the front."
Christian Abt (1.39.233 min., 3rd place):
"Unfortunately, I lost some time in the final corner, which especially annoys me for my team, that has prepared my car perfectly. Our race director has said that we have to take Laurent and Bernd Schneider as an example, and in third place, I am in the best possible position to watch the two of them."
Mattias Ekström (1.39.449 min., 4th place):
"Fourth place is very well, especially as Laurent has won at the Norisring from this grid position. Tomorrow, I will concentrate on making a perfect start and try to get mote to the front, because I would very much like to get a trophy for my birthday."
Hans-Jürgen Abt (Team principal):
"Today, my five drivers have shown a great qualifying. They were on the track at the right moment and have shown their performance. Currently, Laurent is the one who is setting the pace for us, the others try to match it and are motivating each other. As a team principal, I couldn't wish anything better."
