After landing the DTM race victory at Norisring, Audi’s Ekstrom was excluded, handing the win to Mercedes driver Wickens.
The first win for Audi at the Norisring since 2002 has been taken away when Mattias Ekstrom was excluded from the victory due to breaking the parc ferme regulations concerning the pouring of water into the pockets of his race suit his during the on-the-road victory celebration. Team Audi Sport Abt Sportsline may appeal the exclusion.
The exclusion ended up as a benefit for the Mercedes driver Robert Wickens. For the Canadian, it is his maiden win in the DTM series.
Second place now goes to Vietoris while Daniel Juncadella now has his first podium finish with third place. The penalty to Ekstrom also gave Mercedes the podium sweep.
Wickens earned his first pole position yesterday.
Ekstrom was also handed a fine of €1000 for not putting the steering wheel back on his Audi in parc ferme.
