Opel reached the top ten super pole qualifying of the ninth round of the DTM at Brno with three Vectra GTS V8. Heinz-Harald Frentzen (OPC Team Holzer) continuously improved on the Czech circuit and obtained position five, his best result of the season so far after starting sixth in Adria.
Marcel Fässler (OPC Team Phoenix), after qualifying third, posted the sixth time in the super pole to line up on row three with Frentzen. Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Holzer) was ninth in the individually timed laps.
Volker Strycek, Opel motorsport chief:
"We showed that we have improved since free practice and that a good team result is possible. Congratulations to Heinz-Harald on his outstanding result. I am hoping for a good race result."
Heinz-Harald Frentzen (OPC Team Holzer) Super pole 1:53.462, 5th
"I am pleased with my very good qualifying result, we constantly improved. Obviously it made a difference when I tried different lines -- in the first sector I was overall fastest."
Marcel Fässler (OPC Team Phoenix) Super pole 1:53.462, 6th
The super pole round went alright. Unfortunately we could not improve from qualifying as we had hoped for. I left the settings on my car the same right to the end."
Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix) Super pole 1:53.962, 9th
"I was improving in qualifying but in the third run I did not find enough grip. In my individually timed lap I lost three tenths in the last in the last sector becasue I made an error in the chicane."
Timo Scheider (OPC Team Holzer) Qualifying 1:53.849, 11th
"It annoyed me that I could not hold my record of being the only Opel driver to have always qualified in the super pole session this year. I lost too much time in the second sector."
Manuel Reuter (OPC Team Holzer) Qualifying 1:53.881, 12th
"Unfortunately a strong tendency towards oversteer cost me a better position. The handling in the downhill section was rather awkward."
Laurent Aiello (OPC Team Phoenix) Qualifying 1:54.519, 16th
"I used three different tyre types but none of my laps gave me the grip which I had expected."
Jeroen Bleekemolen (OPC Euroteam) Qualifying 1:56.336, 21st
"My first lap was okay in view of the fact that we didn't get any running this morning at all. Unfortunately I didn't get a clear track in either my second or third laps."
