Pole Position is Paul Position

2008 DTM runner-up Paul Di Resta (AMG Mercedes C-Klasse) will start Sunday's seventh round of the 2009 DTM at Brands Hatch -- the Scotsman's home race - from pole position. In the single-lap qualifying with the four fastest drivers, Paul set a time of 41.750sec and was 81 thousandths of a second faster than Timo Scheider (Audi) in second place. It is Paul's second pole in the championship since Lausitzring 2008, the first for Mercedes-Benz this season and the 97th in 317 DTM races since 1988.

Bruno Spengler at the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class, fastest in Q3 with 41.584sec, will start fourth on the grid (41.938sec) from row two. Gary Paffett (Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class), winner of two races this year, ended up sixth with 41.825sec whilst Jamie Green (Junge Sterne AMG Mercedes C-Class), the winner at the Norisring, came home eighth with 41.986sec. C-Class drivers were fastest in all four qualifying parts -- Paul three times, Bruno once.

Qualifying, part 1: Compared to this morning's free practice, Paul Di Resta improved by almost three tenths of a second and posted the fastest lap with a 41.569sec. Mathias Lauda (stern AMG Mercedes C-Class) came home 17th with 42.322sec and missed Q2 by 68 thousandths of a second.

Qualifying, part 2: Paul Di Resta improved again and was fastest with 41.492sec. Ralf Schumacher (Trilux AMG Mercedes C-Class) was about three and a half tenths faster than in Q1 and ended up 11th with 41.896sec; Maro Engel (GQ Spielfilm AMG Mercedes C-Class/42.463) and Susie Stoddart (TV Spielfilm AMG Mercedes C-Class/42,602sec) came home 13th and 14th respectively.

Paul Di Resta (2009 AMG Mercedes C-Class), pole position (41.750): "I am really happy. This pole is very special for me as I achieved it at my home race. My C-Class was excellent in qualifying as well as in race trim and we now have the optimum basis for the race. I thank my team for a perfect job -- I will fight to reward them with possibly the same position tomorrow."

Bruno Spengler (2009 Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Class), fourth (41.938): "I am less than two tenths of a second behind Paul's pole, that's not bad. Of course I would have preferred his position; however, even from fourth on the grid everything is possible. Congratulations to Paul on his pole position -- I look forward to an exciting fight tomorrow."

Gary Paffett (2009 Salzgitter AMG Mercedes C-Class), sixth (41.825): "I had expected to make it to the top-four single-lap qualifying, so I am disappointed. But even from sixth on the grid everything is possible tomorrow -- after all, I have won already from seventh on the grid. My car has a great balance and I want to score as many points as possible."

Jamie Green (2008 Junge Sterne AMG Mercedes C-Class), eighth (41.986): "Eighth on the grid is ok. With the last year's car it is not possible to qualify higher than sixth, therefore I am quite happy and it's good that I am the fastest driver with an 08 car in the field."

Ralf Schumacher (2009 Trilux AMG Mercedes C-Class), 11th (41.896): "At this short circuit, the times are very close together; therefore, I am still quite satisfied with my performance and my result -- there were races when it was worse. In tomorrow's race everything will be possible and I expect an exciting fight. Congratulations to my team mate Paul on his pole."

Maro Engel (2008 GQ AMG Mercedes C-Class), 13th (42.463): "Today nothing worked out. My first time was cancelled because I had crossed a restricted zone; later in traffic I wasn't able to get my tyres at the right temperature. Tomorrow I have to fight to score points."

Susie Stoddart (2008 TV-Spielfilm AMG Mercedes C-Class), 14th (42.602): "I am happy to have reached Q2. In the end, we had only one set of tyres left, and after I had made a mistake at turn one, I wasn't able to improve."

Mathias Lauda (2008 stern AMG Mercedes C-Class), 17th (42.322): "I am angry. With my first set of tyres, I set the eighth fastest time; however, when I wanted to improve with my second set, I was blocked by Miss Legge several times. This was certainly not ok -- without her blocking me I would have been able to move up."

Norbert Haug, Vice President Mercedes-Benz Motorsport: "Tomorrow, Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton will visit his Mercedes DTM colleagues and after Lewis had been on pole in the grand prix before the last one at Valencia, Paul Di Resta's best time today fits perfectly and Lewis will enjoy it as much as we all do. Congratulations to Paul and thank you to the HWA team headed by Gerhard Ungar and Hans-Jurgen Mattheis as well as our partner teams Mucke and Persson. With four Mercedes C-Class cars within in the top four rows we have a good basis for the race."
