Spielberg (AT) - Almost every DTM driver raves about the picturesque mountain scenery and the unique views when they talk about the Red Bull Ring in the run-up to the race in Spielberg (AT). Ahead of the sixth DTM round of the season, the BMW DTM drivers took a closer look at this much-lauded scenery: DTM leader Marco Wittmann (DE), Maxime Martin (BE) who won in Moscow, Timo Glock (DE), Martin Tomczyk (DE) and António Félix da Costa (PT) climbed the viewing tower at the top of the 1,194-metre Tremmelberg on Friday, from where they enjoyed a unique view of the circuit.
“I have never seen the circuit from this bird’s-eye perspective,” said Glock, who finished third in Spielberg last year to claim his first podium in the DTM. “The clouds obscured the view at first, but you had a great view when the sky cleared. The trip up the mountain was great fun.” Once the drivers had enjoyed the view, they stopped off for a snack and sampled some Styrian delicacies.
“I always really enjoy this kind of outing before races,” said Félix da Costa, who is a regular guest in Spielberg as a Red Bull Junior. “As a rule, we drivers only get to see the airport, circuit and our hotel on race weekends. To see the landscape from this height makes a really nice change, especially for someone like me, who comes from a flat region. I hope I can now aim just as high when we get down to business at Red Bull’s home circuit.”
Having warmed up for the race weekend, the BMW drivers will now get down to work on the track. Roll-Out begins at 17:10 on Friday. The free practice sessions and qualifying are scheduled for Saturday. Sunday’s race begins at 13:30.
