Peter Dumbreck will start the second race of the DTM season from the third row of the grid. In the super-pole qualifying session the Scot drove the best time in the OPC Phoenix Astra V8 Coupé. Alain Menu (OPC Holzer) and Joachim Winkelhock (OPC Euroteam) also qualified for the super-pole and will start Sunday's race from the fourth row of the grid.
Volker Strycek (Opel motorsport director):
"Three Opels in the top ten and Peter Dumbreck starting from the third row -- that is a clear improvement compared to earlier. Also, the space between times in the previous practices is improving. For the race I expect a hard fight, in which the drivers must be strong and tyres and brakes must be used intelligently."
#19 Peter Dumbreck (OPC Team Phoenix) 5th, 1:12.667:
"To be on the third row is special on this track and a good starting position for the race. My lap was good; I feel right with Opel and in the Astra cockpit. For me it's great fun."
#8 Alain Menu (OPC Team Holzer) 7th, 1:12.707:
"I am content because my lap was very careful at the end; I completely out-braked myself in the first corner then backed off a bit."
#16 Joachim Winkelhock (OPC Euroteam) 8th, 1:12.800:
"I watched and discovered that the Opel drivers were always faster in the second laps (in first qualifying) so I drove once two, then three laps. The lap in the super-pole was absolutely okay, nobody manages an error free lap."
#17 Jeroen Bleekemolen (OPC Euroteam) 12th, 1:13.092:
"Starting twelfth is great. With my second set of tyres I was faster in the first round but then I made a small driving error. I'm still learning."
#18 Timo Scheider (OPC Team Phoenix) 16th, 1:13.239:
"Naturally I'm disappointed. In my third attempt I got a problem when changing gear. We must look at why. It will be a hard race on Sunday."
#7 Manuel Reuter (OPC Team Holzer) 17th, 1:13.465:
"Not one attempt was suitable. Blocking wheels, lack of grip, faster sector times on the in lap than in the later tries. There are days when it just goes wrong."
