The Abt Sportsline Audi team has tested the 2002 TT-R, the car with which they hope to challenge works teams from Mercedes and Opel in this season's DTM. The series kicks off on April 21st at Hockenheim.

At the Estoril circuit in Portugal, Christian Abt and new team mate Karl Wendlinger put the first miles on the car.

"The first impressions are very good." said Abt. "But before the first race gets underway there is still a great deal of work ahead of us to form a winning car from this good basis."

The new car is an advancement on last season's model, which gained two victories and several podiums. "We already had a car which fought for the foremost places in the champioship," Abt commented, "Therefore the improvements are in the deail and under the body. Here we found some things that we could improve."

Wendlinger was also optimistic: "I thoroughly enjoyed these three days," he said. "I quickly became familiar with the TT-R, and then tried to use as much of the possible 100 percent, and squeeze out those last tenths of seconds."

Abt are already ahead of last year's progress, when the 2001 car only appeared at the DTM Presentation in Hockenheim. Alongside Abt and Wendlinger, Laurent Aiello, Mattias Ekstrom and Martin Tomczyk will complete the line up for the team this season.
