Hamburg's mayor Ole von Beust invites DTM for presentation
Hamburg: a city with a very special atmosphere. On 30th March, DTM, Europe's most popular touring car series, will celebrate its traditional season's opening presentation here. The Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg will officially host the presentation.
Ole von Beust, First Mayor of Hamburg, declared: "We are very happy that DTM's presentation is going to come to Hamburg. This will be an event which draws nationwide attention to Hamburg, and which will arouse great interest. The citizens of Hamburg are looking forward to an exciting event on our historic market square. I am certain that, as ever, Hamburg is going to be an enthusiastic host."
Hans Werner Aufrecht, chairman of ITR: "The Senate's invitation and the chance to present DTM in Hamburg fills us with pride. Hamburg's town hall and its market square are the symbols of Hamburg. We are sure that this event will be the opening of a very special season."
The DTM public festival: driving performances, interviews, autographs
The presentation will be centered around special events for present and future DTM fans. On 30th March, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., DTM and its partner series will present themselves with a multi-facetted show and entertainment programme. During various driving acts, Audi, Mercedes-Benz and Opel will -- for the first time -- show the new racing cars of the 2004 season. Also on the schedule are autograph signing with DTM racing stars and interviews in the paddock.
ITR boss Aufrecht announced: "We are planning acts, which Hamburg has never witnessed in this form before. But that's all I'm allowed to say at this point in time."
On the evening before, on 29th March, the Senate will invite the DTM presentation guests and numerous VIPs from business, sports and culture to the banqueting-hall for a formal dinner.
New names, new racing cars and more excitement than ever: DTM 2004
DTM is expecting a most special season: For the first time, there will be factory-side DTM commitment from Audi, joining Mercedes-Benz and Opel who had already done so in the past. Audi, DTM's champion brand in 1990, 1991 and 2002 will enrich the circle of drivers with three times Le Mans winners Frank Biela, Tom Kristensen, Emanuele Pirro.
Opel brings in popular novices: three times Formula 1 winner Heinz-Harald Frentzen, former DTM champion Laurent Aiello and three times DTM winner Marcel Fässler.
For Mercedes-Benz, once more DTM record holder Bernd Schneider will be in the cockpit, along with vice champion Christijan Albers and former F1 star Jean Alesi. All companies will come with brand new cars: the Audi A4 DTM, the new Mercedes-Benz C-Class and the Opel Vectra GTS V8. The starter's gun will be shot for the new season between 16th and 18th April at the Hockenheimring Baden-Wuerttemberg.
