Alesci bows out early at the IHRA Northern Nationals

STANTON, Mi. - Angelo Alesci suffered a disappointing first round loss during eliminations Sunday at the 20th annual IHRA CARQUEST Northern Nationals at the Mid-Michigan Motorplex.

The Cleveland Ohio-based Alesci began the weekend with a pair of runs in the 6.70's to finish the opening day of qualifying in the 14th position. The former Pro Stock national event winner coaxed another pair of 6.70's out of his 2001 Chevy Cavalier on Saturday, saving his best effort for his final qualifying attempt. Alesci laid down a 6.74/206-mph run to secure the No. 14 spot for Sunday's eliminations in Sunoco Pro Stock.

Alesci, who has advanced to the final round once already this season, faced the 2000 Mustang driven by Tom Lee in the first round on Sunday. Alesci left the starting line first with a great .436 reaction time but didn't have enough muscle to out run Lee, who took the victory with a 6.68/208 to Alesci's off-pace 6.83/204.

The next event for Angelo Alesci will be the IHRA Mopar Parts World Nationals at beautiful Norwalk Raceway Park in Ohio, August 23-26. To find out more about Alesci and all the stars of the IHRA, visit the drag racing's premier website, CompetitionPlus.com.
