SHREVEPORT - Accident During Top Dragster Qualifying Gambino Uninjured in Crash and Fire by Larry Sullivan SHREVEPORT, La. - SUMMIT FastNews - Charles Gambino, a concrete contractor from Port Orange, Fl., was uninjured when his supercharged, alcohol-fueled '23 Ford altered, running in Top Dragster, crashed during a Saturday afternoon qualifying run for the IHRA World Finals at Red River Raceway. A fuel line on Gambino's car came loose as he left the starting line, dumping alcohol under his left rear tire. The unequal traction turned the car hard to the left and when Gambino attempted to correct the turn, the car flipped up on its side, slid across the centerline near the 60-foot marker, and slid into the left-hand wall. As the car came to a stop, an alcohol fire broke out in the engine bay, and Gambino became entangled as he tried to exit the car, but the Professional Track Services crew managed to knock the fire down and extricate Gambino. Gambino was checked out in the ambulance and was released to drive his other car, also an altered, running in the Super Eliminator category.
