McMillen advances to the quarterfinals at the IHRA World Finals in Shreveport
Shreveport LA- IHRA Funny Car driver, Terry McMillen, qualified his Amalie Motor Oil Dodge Avenger in the top half of the field for the 4th annual IHRA Mopar Parts World Finals at Red River Raceway. McMillen advanced to the quarterfinals before losing to eventual event winner, Dale Brand.
McMillen opened qualifying on Friday with a 6.15 at 233 mph to grab the No. 8 position on the Funny Car ladder. The Elkhart, Ind., resident skipped Friday's evening session and returned on Saturday for his final pair of qualifying attempts. The Amalie Motor Oil-sponsored driver improved to 6.00 at 225 mph during Saturday's first session then returned during the "Night of Fire" and laid down a respectable 5.98 at 234 mph to secure the No. 8 position in the short 13-car field.
McMillen's '98 Dodge Avenger squared off against No. 7 qualifier, Ronnie Midyette, during the first round of eliminations on Sunday. McMillen left the starting line first with a .511 to .583 reaction time and never looked back as streaked to a 6.26 at only 176 mph to cover Midyette's 6.32 at 220 mph.
The Indiana racer faced No. 1 qualifier, Dale Brand, in the quarterfinals of Funny Car. McMillen strapped a huge holeshot on Brand with a .449 to .480 reaction time and made his best run of the weekend with a 5.93 at 234 mph but it still wasn't enough to hold off Brand's impressive 5.78 at 241 mph.
