Jenkins' Championship Season Ends As Quarter-finalist At IHRA Mopar Parts World Finals

SHREVEPORT, LA.- - Last season, Jenkins left Shreveport with the world record intact. This season, he leaves with a World Championship under his belt. Although the "Iceman" bowed out in the quarters, the entire Parson Brothers Team was nothing but smiles after a long fruitful season.

In the first qualifying session, Jenkins stepped to the front of the line for nitrous-injected entries with a 6.406/217.70, good enough for the second spot. His first attempt was tough to outdo and he slowed down with a 6.463/216.66 in the second session.

Jenkins appeared to be on a great run, but was forced to lift as he drifted near the center-line. This run also was a disappointment as Jenkins lost to Critchley in the first round of the MOPAR PARTS Pro Modified Shootout. The Shootout consisted of the top eight in points and was run during Saturday night qualifying. He went into the last session as the seventh quickest. Jenkins failed to improve as he shut off with a 9.355/80.39.

Jenkins met Steve Vick in the first round, and the Tuscaloosa, Al.,-based driver took the win with a 6.376/217 to Vick's losing 6.386/219.69. He then faced number one qualifier Tommy Mauney and his Jeg's backed ride in the second round. The two nitrous warriors left almost identical, but Jenkins broke on the launch as Mauney cruised to the win.
