Litton Completes His Most Successful Season At The IHRA Mopar Parts World Finals

SHREVEPORT, LA -- Bruce Litton unwillingly conceded the points championship in a tough Top Fuel battle throughout the 1999 season. Going into the Mopar Parts World Finals, Litton was determined not to give up the fight. But in spite of his best efforts, Litton could not overcome traction problems which inevitably cost him a chance for the final event win of the IHRA season.

Litton didn't post the numbers he anticipated in the first round of qualifying Saturday. He lost traction before the half track mark, pedaled the car, smoke the tires, and pedaled some more. Litton posted a 5.632/184.57, well off his normal pace, but took the number four position with one more attempt.

In the second round of qualifying, Litton was able to improve his numbers. Lifting the wheels on the launch, Litton lifted the throttle and set the car down, then stomped it again, to rocket through the quarter mile. Posting a 4.919/307.58 run, Litton took the number two spot, but was bumped back to number four by the end of qualifying.

He was set to meet Mike Smith in the first round of eliminations.

Litton was out first at the gate, lifting the wheels again. Unfortunately, upon setting the dragster back down to earth, Litton went up in smoke, and gave Mike Smith an easy first round win.
