DARLINGTON, SC - If Shannon Jenkins plans to be as intimidating as his new Dodge Viper looks, then the Pro Modified contingent are in for a long season. The defending World Champion from Tuscaloosa, Ala., who is best known as "The Iceman", will be behind the wheel of a Dodge Viper as a teammate of Billy Harper at the season-opening IHRA Winter Nationals in Darlington, SC., next week.

Jenkins has yet to test the vehicle that promises to be one of the quickest nitrous entries in the division.

"There will be some new car bugs," Jenkins explained. "I'm not real worried about it. In the past, we haven't done a lot of testing and we've managed to do pretty well. I'm confident that we will be just fine."

Jenkins has kept in practice on his tuning by his engine-lease program and recently helped customer Mike Castellana finish runner-up at the CompetitionPlus.Com Groundhog Warm-up in Darlington, SC. He also posted a best 6.32 elapsed time.

The Iceman has a positive history at the IHRA season-opener. He posted his last win at the 1997 event over Scotty Cannon. Jenkins went on to win the championship that season.

The next event will be the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals next week, March 9 -11 in Darlington, SC. The event will be televised on TNN.
