Weney Makes Strides To Return To Championship Form At IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals

DARLINGTON, SC-- Scott Weney once said that he does no testing prior to a new season. The veteran found himself wishing that he might have had a shot or two prior to showing up for the IHRA Prolong Winter Nationals in Darlington, S.C. However, once he began to find the groove, things started working well.

During the first session of qualifying, Weney had to shut his 1997 Pontiac Firebird following a bout with violent tireshake, in which he coasted into the number 12 position. In session number two, Weney ran a 8.53/154.83, landing him into the number 20th spot. He redeemed himself in the third session with an "on and off" the throttle pass of a 6.16/235.35, jolting him right into the number 11 spot. Due to rain, the fourth and final round of qualifying have been postponed until May 8th.

Weney next ravels to the IHRA Amalie Oil Nationals in Bradenton, Fla. on March 26-28. Weney, along with each Pro Alcohol Funny Car contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue.
