Weney Encounters Tough Luck, Drops First Round Match Against Rector

DARLINGTON, SC-- Scott Weney returned to Darlington International Dragway with high hopes. After qualifying 11th on a 6.169/235 run in March, Weney improved that mark during the rain-delayed fourth qualifying session by running a 6.05/204.60. With all the Alcohol Funny Cars skirting the edges of the lanes earlier in time trials, the situation looked ominous.

Paired with Jimmy Rector for the first round of eliminations, Weney barely lost the starting line advantage. Weney's first round would be his last dance at the Prolong Winter Nationals as he lost a bout with tireshake

"We expected to do better than that," explained Weney. "Usually, when you run Jimmy, you can let him beat himself. But instead, he let us beat ourselves."

Weney next travels to the IHRA Amalie Oil Summer Nationals in Cordova, Ill., June 18-20. Weney, along with each Pro Alcohol Funny Car contestant, will be afforded two qualifying runs on Friday and another two on Saturday. Final eliminations slated for Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of the IHRA's Drag Review magazine.
