LEICESTER, NY - After a three week break, the CARQUEST Credit Card Super Eliminator dragster owned by Stan Ray and driven by son Scott Ray returns to action July 9-11 at the IHRA CARQUEST Empire Nationals at New York International Raceway Park near Rochester, NY,
Since the last IHRA event, the Amalie Oil Summer Nationals in Cordova, Ill., the CARQUEST Credit Card dragster has undergone some changes.
"Dad has put the scoop back on the car and we have also added a rear wing," Scott Ray said. "At Cordova as I was nearing the finish line, the car was skating all over the place. That can be fun at times, but this time I almost lost it so we decided it was time for a rear wing."
While the Ray's have been changing their setup in anticipation for the CARQUEST Empire Nationals, Scott has also been busy away from the race shop. During the week of June 26th - July 4th, he spent four days with teammate Paul Romine attending the Special Olympics World Games in Raleigh, NC. There the two drivers had their CARQUEST-sponsored dragsters on display and signed autographs.
"For over a year we have been working with CARQUEST in raising the $1,000,000 for the Games and it was finally nice to see all the athletes compete," Scott Ray said. "Also having the dragsters on display, I think we won a lot of new fans and friends."
With the World Games now complete, Ray gets back to action this weekend at the CARQUEST Empire Nationals where he will be looking to continue to move up in the IHRA Snap-on point standings where he is currently eighth.
