Romine joins distinguished list of IHRA All-America representatives
BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Paul Romine joins a distinguished list of past IHRA representatives on the American Auto Racing Writers & Broadcasters Association All-America Team ballot in the drag racing category. Romine, driver of the CARQUEST Auto Parts / Prolong Super Lubricants dragster, was recently named to the 1997 Auto Racing All-America Team ballot.
IHRA drivers honored on the Auto Racing All-America Team in the past include Shirley Muldowney (1996); Mike Bell (1995); Eddie Hill, Ed McCulloch, Gene Snow (1988); Mark Oswald, Lee Shepherd (1984); Lee Shepherd (1983); Warren Johnson, Mark Oswald (1982); Richard Tharp (1976); Don Garlits (1975); and Dave Boertman, Don Schumacher (1971).
Romine had an outstanding season, winning four IHRA national events and posting a runner-up finish in another. He won his first IHRA Snap-on Tools Top Fuel World Championship while establishing a new elapsed time world record (4.784 seconds) and taking IHRA Top Fuel competition to another level.
Romine, 50, owns Dealer Engine Sales, a distributor of remanufactured Ford products. He and wife Barbara have two children, Robin (30) and Abbey (11), and live in Indianapolis.
Other drag racing category ballot members for 1997 in addition to Romine include John Force, Gary Scelzi, Whit Bazemore, Jim Yates and Cory McClenathan.
Motorsports journalists from across the nation will vote from among six drivers named to the ballot in each of six different categories -- Open Wheel, Stock Car, Drag Racing, Road Racing, Short Track and At Large -- to determine first team, second team and honorable mention selections. First team members will be honored at the AARWBA banquet, Jan. 10, 1998 at the Hyatt Regency in Long Beach, Calif.
