Stroupe Falls Short In Qualifying At CARQUEST Autumn Nationals
ROCKINGHAM, NC -- A fire couldn't stop him, nor third degree burns last season. He had an appendectomy earlier in the season, but showed enough grit to earn a berth in the qualified field. However, it was engine woes that did Wally Stroupe in at the CARQUEST Autumn Nationals presented by Prolong. The veteran Trim Parts-sponsored, driver fell short of earning a berth in the quickest Pro Modified field in the history of the nine-year old division.
Stroupe opened qualifying with a 6.508 and that was enough to put him into the initial qualifying program at the ninth seed. He failed to improve during the second attempt and lifted, coasting to a 9.149 elapsed time. Stroupe was 14th quickest at the completion of the first day.
Stroupe continued his bid for improvement on the second day of qualifying and was successful in his effort with a 6.474/217.18. He closed the third session as the 12th quickest entry. As the field improved, he was unable to record a better run during the final session and was bumped from the show. His car was suffering obvious engine damage during the final attempt.
