Castellana Is Out, Then In, And Then Out Again At CARQUEST Autumn Nationals
ROCKINGHAM, NC-- Never let it be said that Mike Castellana has never been on a rollercoaster ride. The veteran racer struggled to find the right combination at the CARQUEST Autumn Nationals by Prolong and finally did so during the final session. Pro Modified's veteran racer from Westbury, N.Y., earned a berth in the field, only to be bumped out in the the category's quickest-ever field, at the conclusion of the event.
In qualifying, Castellana was determined to improve on his Epping DNQ, but it didn't come on his first attempt. He aborted the run early and was left to improve during his second attempt. The second attempt was much better as the Western Beef-sponsored, '57 Chevy cranked out a 6.546/214.59. He was still on the outside looking in as the second alternate.
Castellana fared no better during the third session as he rattled the tires and was forced to shut off, coasting to a 9.134/88 lap. He saved his finest lap for the last session, but his 6.469/211.12 was only good for a brief berth in the field. He was eventually bumped from the program.
