ROCKINGHAM, NC - Pro Mod veteran Dale Brinsfield looked as if he would be a man to contend with this season after his impressive showing at the IHRA's season-opener at Darlington, South Carolina. Brinsfield went to the semi-finals at the Prolong Winter Nationals, and was hoping to go one better at "The Rock". With his new "no more mister nice guy" attitude towards racing, and his "Back in Black" '67 Camaro, Brinsfield was hoping that his good early season start would serve him well heading into race number two, the Holley Spring Nationals in Rockingham, North Carolina.

In the first qualifying session, Brinsfield laid down a respectable 6.511/214.83, which placed him temporarily in the number twelve spot. But by the end of the first round, he was pushed back to the 19th position. In the second session, Brinsfield bettered his previous time to a 6.477/214.96, but this improvement was not enough to crack the top 16.

Brinsfield was looking to move further towards the top of the ladder when rain caused the final session of qualifying to be called off, leaving him stuck on the outside of the 6.46 field in #18.

Look for the "Man in Black" to be back when the IHRA trail heads north for the Inaugural Mopar Performance Parts Canadian Nationals in Grand Bend Ont, Canada this June 2-4.
