DINWIDDIE, VA (April 9, 2002) -- Paul Romine likes Virginia Motorsports Park (VMP), home of the 2nd Annual ACDelco Nationals presented by Chevrolet, April 19-21. Not only does Romine like VMP because he's won there in the past, but also because it is the premiere facility in IHRA.

"Virginia Motorsports Park is one of my favorite tracks in IHRA," said Romine, a 3-time IHRA Top Fuel World Champion. "It has everything a great track should have...there's always great traction, the crowds are great, safety wise, the cement retaining walls the entire track distance are a welcome sight, and for my crew guys, there's plenty of asphalt in the pits to work on."

When it comes to racing at VMP, Romine has plenty of experience driving down its quarter-mile in all kinds of racing conditions. When his CARQUEST Auto Parts team won the inaugural IHRA event in 2001, it wasn't Romine's first win at the track, which opened in 1994. At the Super Stock Reunion in 1996, Romine won with his nostalgia Top Fuel car. The following year at the NHRA event, he went to the semi-finals and competed in every NHRA event held there from 1997-2000.

This season the CARQUEST team enters the ACDelco Nationals presented by Chevrolet with aspirations of getting back to the top of the IHRA point standings. It has been a year since Romine won an IHRA event, something he has done in every year since 1997.

"We want a win at Virginia really bad," said Romine, who earned a semi-final finish at the first IHRA national event of the season in Rockingham, NC. "At Rockingham, things just didn't go our way, but Richmond is a whole new ball game and I fully expect the CARQUEST team to be right there in the qualifying order and in the final on Sunday."

Top Fuel qualifying begins Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. ET. It continues Saturday, April 20 with two sessions at 12 noon and 7 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for Sunday, April 21 at 12 noon.

A one-hour highlight show of the 2nd Annual ACDelco Nationals presented by Chevrolet will air on TNN, Saturday, May 11 at 3 p.m. ET.
