NORWALK, OH.-- Rookie Super Eliminator driver Mark McElwee continues to show phenomenal advancement as a driver and his latest race, the Mopar Parts World Nationals afforded him the opportunity to showcase his driving talents. He was on the way to his first victory until Larry Snyder derailed the train in the quarter-finals.

"I think our element of surprise is gone," explained McElwee. "The racers in Super Eliminator know very well who we are. But, that's okay. That means there will be no easy races, as if there ever are in this class. People know what to expect from us when we come to the line."

McElwee has developed a penchant for producing wheels-up, hard launches. He provided no finer an example than the final qualifying session when he hammered out a 6.297/213.60 to claim the seventh position in the 16-car field.

He then took care of Angela Sicilia in the first round of eliminations, with an impressive lap in the digger tuned by his brother Artie "Buzz" McElwee. However, points leader Larry Snyder proved to be too much of a mountain to climb at this time.

McElwee and his Powershield High Performance Coatings Team plans to resume their championship conquest at the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, NH., September 10-12. McElwee, along with each Super Eliminator contestant, will be afforded four qualifying runs during the course of the event and the quickest sixteen entries will compete in final eliminations on Sunday. This event will be televised on ESPN2 with the dates TBA in an upcoming issue of Drag Review.
