NORWALK, OH.-- John Montecalvo had a plan going into Norwalk. The veteran Pro Stock racer from Center Moriches, NY., had every intention of totally dominating the Pro Stock field at the IHRA Mopar Parts World Nationals and the veteran racer nearly achieved his objective. An untimely red-light in the quarter-finals against Chris Holbrook ended his bid.

“We are going to be happy with what we achieved,” explained Montecalvo. “Chris is a tough competitor and I knew that he was going to be on the top of his game for our match. I tried to push it on the line and to my misfortune, it lit the red bulb.”

Montecalvo was the hottest Chevrolet, or Pro Stock driver, for that matter. He posted the quickest laps in every session. When Ford driver Tom Lee stepped up in the final session and took the top spot, Montecalvo stormed back and secured his place on top with a 6.724/206.26.

He opened eliminations with an easy win over Charlie Peppers. Montecalvo took lane choice into the quarters, but the foul start ended his day.

The next event for the Citgo team will be the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals in Epping, NH, on September 10-12. Montecalvo, along with the rest of the Pro Stock contingent, will take assault on the New England Dragway racing surface for the eighth professional race on the IHRA/Snap-On Tools Championship Series. Each contestant will be afforded two qualifying attempts on Friday and another two on Saturday. Final eliminations are slated to begin on Sunday.
