NORWALK, OH-- Just making it from end one of the track to the the other on a Top Fuel Harley requires unfathomable skill. But, when you consider becoming a part of the quickest and fastest field in the Screamin Eagle Top Fuel Harley- Davidson Series, you must give that individual a pat on the back.
Twenty-four year old Top Fuel Harley rider Jamie Emery of Colton's Point, Maryland doesn't really want a pat on the back. But, he sure deserves it. Emery wheeled his nitro-burning, 167 cubic-inch into the quickest and fastest Screamin Eagle Series Top Fuel Harley field under the International Hot Rod Association sanction, a fast-growing automotive sanctioning body.
Emery, who boasts 17 years of motorcycle riding experience, avenged back-to- back DNQ (Did Not Qualify) outings, by running a 6.975/192.26 during the final qualifying session at the World Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio. By virtue of his eighth quickest seed in qualifying, he was forced to meet up with low qualifier Johnny Mancuso in the first round. He dropped a tough one to the Texas-based Harley dealer, 6.75/203.02 to 7.021/176.36.
On a special note, it was also announced that the Top Fuel Harley-Davidsons will be a regular class on the IHRA circuit for next season. Emery plans to run the complete 11-race tour for 1999. He will be participating in the North American Nationals in Epping, New Hampshire in two weeks during the final installment of the 1998 Screamin Eagle Top Fuel Harley Series.
