NORWALK, OHIO -- Bruce Litton, of Indianapolis, needed to go more rounds than Don Lampus at the Mopar World Nationals presented by Ethanol Performs! if he were to move back to the top of the IHRA Snap-on points standings. Unfortunately, that did not happen for the Indianapolis trailer salesman.
In what seems to have become a regular first round meeting, Litton's Moser Engineering / Lucas Oil / Spectra One / Bruce Litton Trailer Sales-sponsored Top Fuel dragster lined up against Lampus in round one. In a round he needed, Litton lost 4.792/ 289.07 to 4.761/306.88. "We needed to take out Don in round one and we didn't," Litton said. "I'm not giving up yet with this championship quest, but this really hurts our chances." Litton debuted a new Brad Hadman-build chassis at the Mopar Parts World Nationals and proceeded to record some of the best numbers of his career. He qualified with a fourth best 4.820/303.64, then lowered that mark to 4.792 in round one only to lose. "We were really pleased with how the car reacted to the tune-up this weekend," Litton said. "This car will give Lampus and the rest of the guys a run for in the final three events."
Litton's next IHRA event will be Sept 11-12, the PARTS PRO North American Nationals at New England Dragway in Epping, NH. Top Fuel qualifying is set for Saturday, Sept. 11 with final eliminations scheduled to begin, Sunday, Sept. 14 at 12 noon. Prior to the IHRA PARTS PRO North American Nationals, Litton will compete at the NHRA U.S. Nationals, located just across the street from Bruce Litton Trailer Sales at Indianapolis Raceway Park. The Mopar Parts World Nationals presented by Ethanol Performs! will air on ESPN2, Friday, Sept. 15th at 1:30 p.m.(EDT) The one-hour long show will be replayed Thursday, Sept. 23rd at 2:30 a.m.
